Busti, NY (September 5, 2015): After sitting dark since late June Stateline Speedway presented by Lite House Auto roared back to life with its first event under the management of Jim Scott, Jean Scott, and Brian Horner in a big way with two extra-lap events, the Lite House Auto “Get our Feet Wet 30” for the Overhead Door of Jamestown Super Late Models and the Pat McGee Memorial, a 25-lap special for the Sugar Grove Beverage E-Mods. All other classes ran regular-length features with a total of 141 cars signing into the pits.
David Scott made a late charge on race-long leader Rob Blair, the defending track champion, pulling even at the end of the twenty-eighth laps and then pulling ahead at the white flag to score his first win of the season in the “Lite House Auto 30”. Joel Watson charged into the lead from the outside of the front row at the drop of the green flag, then held off David Scott for the win in the Pat McGee Memorial. In honor of McGee’s car number eleven the eleventh place car at lap eleven collected an extra $50 courtesy of Applebee Motorsports. That honor went to Troy Johnson, who also collected an extra $50 for finishing eleventh.
In regular features points leader Jason Genco drove to his second Shults Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Model win of the season while former champion Ryan Scott prevailed in the Limited Late Model feature. Former champion Dan Nocero Jr drove to his second Sportsman feature win and Jason Covey took over the points lead with his third Street Stock win of the season. Andy Proper clinched his first Stateline points championship with his fifth Challenger feature win.
Street Stocks were the first feature run under the new management with Ken Lamp Jr and Pat Fielding leading the pack to Spanky Hall’s green flag. After a lap one restart Lamp was the leader with Jason Covey second. Covey used the outside line to take over at the front on lap four with Critter Hemphill coming to second a lap later. Yellow flew again at the end of five when Cody Bliss swapped ends in turn two. Covey resumed the lead with Hemphill pulling alongside through turn two. A four car pileup again slowed the action in turn two on lap seven. Involved cars were Ken Drake, Wesley McCray, Mark Frontera, and Brad Church. McCray went off on a hook but the others were able to continue. After green Lamp’s nose piece went flying on the back straight, again slowing the event. Lamp had more problems and required a push off the speedway while John Cline Jr needed towed off. Covey and Hemphill continued their battle up front until lap ten when Kyle Reinwald spun in turn four with Ken Drake and David Baker also coming to a halt. At this point a single-file restart was instituted with Covey, Hemphill, Pat Fielding, Brain Crandall, and Chris Withers at the head of the field. Yet another caution at this restart shuffled the running order at eye top with Covey now leading Hemphill, Withers, Tony Marotto, and Crandall. Covey went on to his third win of the season with the first four remaining the same except Fielding coming back to fifth.
Steve Longo and Ted Kosinski started the Sportsman feature up front but at the start Michael Little exploded an engine, spreading fluid all through the front straight and turn one. Kosinski led the way after green resumed with Matt Kosinski and Dan Nocero fighting over second. Matt Kosinski won the battle and the took the lead on lap four. Nocero came back to second and was challenging for the lead when yellow appeared for the Steve Longo car, who was sent to the pit for waiting for the yellow. Nocero, a past class champion, got alongside at the flag with four laps left then went on to the win over Kosinski, who got back by Matt Kosinski for the runner-up position. Michael Kosinski and Don McGuire also got by Matt Kosinski in the final laps for third and fourth.
Joel Watson and David Scott started the 25-lap Pat McGee Memorial for the Sugar Grove Beverage E-Mods on the front row with Watson assuming the immediate lead and still leading when the first caution appeared at lap five when John Woodward and Darren Tarabori tangled in turn four. Watson again led after green with Greg Johnson now second but then Steve Rex and Josh John got together on turn two, again slowing the action. At green David Scott was battling for second, holding it at the end of seven when Paul Campbell got into the turn four wall. Again the field could not complete a lap as three more cars piled up in turn two. At lap eleven a $50 bonus was offered by Applebee Motorsports for the eleventh running car in honor of McGee’s car number and was collected by Troy Johnson. Watson built up a substantial lead over Johnson and Scott, who were staging a great race for second with Rich Michael fourth and Brent Rhebergen fifth with ten to go. With six to go Scott held second then started lengthening his advantage over third-running Johnson, now trying to hold off a hard-charging Michael, who was having his hands full with Rhebergen. Watson went on to the win, his second of the season at Stateline, over Scott with Rhebergen coming to third in the waning laps with Johnson fourth and Michael fifth.
Ryan Scott and Bill Reeves brought the Limited Late Model field to green with Scott leading from the drop of the green. Kelly Frederes came to second after a restart when D J Krug spun. Then another caution at lap five again bunched the field but Scott wasn't to be denied the win, leaving Frederes and Reeves to battle over the runner-up spot. With fourteen complete Krug and Bill Applebee got together coming out of turn four. Reeves wound up second with Frederes third, Nate Short fourth, and Mike Moon fifth.
Points leader Jason Genco and Wyatt Scott were at the front of the Shults Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Models. Genco grabbed the early lead with Dennis Lunger coming to second over Wyatt Scott. Genco and Lunger sped away from the field with Genco distancing himself from second when Doug Ricotta looped his mount in turn two with six laps compete. After green Genco and Lunger again led the way, again opening a lead over third running Wyatt Scott who was holding off Kyle Zimmerman, who held a three length advantage over Chad Schauers at the halfway point. At twelve complete Darrell Bossard came to fifth. At thirteen complete Genco was in lapped traffic then yellow appeared at lap sixteen when Dustin Waters and Kyle Scott got together in turn on with Scott winding up on Waters’ nosepiece and engine cover. At green Zimmerman got by Scott right away then a lap later Scott got high in turn one, dropping back to seventh. In the final laps Randy Hall made his presence known, coming to third in the final laps. Genco went on to his second win of the season Lunger, Hall, Zimmerman, and Bossard.
Max Blair and Chris Hackett brought the Overhead Door of Jamestown Super Late Models Lite House Auto 30 to green. At the end of lap one it was an all Blair race for the lead with the senior Blair holding a slight lead when a quick yellow was thrown when Hackett got sideways on the back straight but straightened it out causing several cars to slow on the straight. Blair, Blair, and Hackett led the way back to green with David Scott and Doug Eck filling out the top five. John Lobb moved to fifth on the first lap of green with Scott ahead of Hackett for third at the end of five. On lap eleven Scott got by Max Blair for the runner-up spot. Yellow flew at the end of ten for a single car spin in turn two. With seven to go caution flew when Paul Briggs wound up sideways at the end of the back straight. Over the final laps Scott closed on the leader, drawing alongside at two to go, and then taking over at the front on the white flag lap, then going on to his first Super Late Model win of the year over Rob Blair, then Max Blair, John Lobb, and John Volpe.
Points leader Andy Proper led the entire Challenger feature after starting outside of the front row next to former champion Casey Burch. Two cautions slowed the event, one at lap six, and one at lap seven. Following Proper to checkers was Pete Volpe, who had come to the runner-up spot at seven laps complete and was next to the winner at the end, lacking only half a length of being the winner. Burch would up third with Travis Darling fourth and Thomas Cupp fifth.
